Drew McDowall - Haecceity Deluge

Drew McDowall - Haecceity Deluge

First off let me just say these tapes are dubbed beautifully with amazing artwork and quality. Tape is the perfect medium for a release that sounds this modular. I liked his LP on Dais but this is more live and thus needs a more analog sound. This is a little more dance oriented than that, both are great. I wish I could have seen Drew live in PVD earlier this month since I feel like this translates live even better than this.

Strega - Mezzanotte

Strega - Mezzanotte

I definitely didn't see this one coming. This sounds like JW's take on a soundtrack to a 80s horror movie. I'm not a film buff by any means but if you told me this was from some film I'd believe you. My only point of reference is John Carpenter but this is a little more evil (Lost Themes is actually fantastic, just a little FYI). This is definitely worth checking out though.

SRM - Brick Violation

SRM - Brick Violation

Nasty and nastier. There's a nice riff in here hidden behind layers of filth. Very repetitive yet raging. I like this new LA based label, Love Material, a lot and look forward to picking up whatever else they do.

Dry Insides - Doorway

Dry Insides - Doorway

The production on this does the project much more justice than the previous release. Great mid tempo release though. Not sure if I would call it blackened punk or almost hardcore, either way I like it.

Broken Tower - Our Flag

Broken Tower - Our Flag

I honestly can't praise Beyond The Ruins enough. He usually throws freebies in with orders and this is one of them, I feel like I'm stealing something because this is great. I might be wrong, but I believe this is the new Oaken Tower. 2 tracks of very raw mid tempo black metal. I'm very glad to have gotten the chance to own this, thanks again John.

Ligature - Night Discussions

Ligature - Night Discussions

Power electronics by means of NYC. I've been sleeping on some of the more recent stuff Beyond The Ruins put out but I'm very glad I picked this up. Each songs builds up very nicely. Highly recommended and sold out from the label, it might pop up in some distros.

Covered In Sand - Live At The Complex

Covered In Sand - Live At The Complex

More industrial techno, I'm on a roll. Covered In Sand aka Shifted plays a much more club and driving techno than let's say the OAKE mix that was just posted. More akin to Shapednoise, Vatican Shadow, etc. Just think really dark and heavy techno. Solid mix though, definitely worth checking out if this is your thing.

OAKE - Live In Marseille

OAKE - Live In Marseille

I am so glad Ascetic House released this. While OAKE's late 2014 LP Auferstehung was one of my favorite records of the year (made my top 10!) I feel like it went under the radar for most people. I saw OAKE in London last year and they blew me away and while this isn't a seedy London club, I am still someone who appreciates live recordings, especially ones done right (this). If you aren't familiar with OAKE they make noisy and fairly brutal industrial techno and dark ambient with vocals which bring out some of the hidden melodies and layers. This is just an hour long live recording of a great set they played. I pieced it together so it's one continuous song. This isn't for everyone who's fans with this blog, but I strongly suggest checking this and their LP "Auferstehung" out.

Varg - Under The Roman Lash

Varg - Under The Roman Lash

I probably didn't go as crazy as I should have with all the new Ascetic House tapes but I'm happy with my haul. I haven't listened to most of what I got but I was very excited to hear this one and it didn't disappoint. Varg has put out a number of things this year, most notably an LP on Northern Electronics, which was great. This is the same industrial techno/dark ambient style but isn't as refined as that album (obviously), but for what it is I enjoy it. 3 tracks are "live electronics" and the other 3 tracks were from an improvised show. I don't know if I'd throw this on before the Ursviken album so if you like this and haven't heard that I definitely recommend checking it out.

Appetite - s/t

Appetite - s/t

By request, here is the recent Ascetic House NYC release from Jane Chardiet and Ciarra Black. If you can make it through the first mediocre techno track then you will be treated with 2 rhythmic power electronics tracks that really do it for me. I hope they keep making really noisy industrial techno, rhythmic power electronics, or whatever you want to call it since that is where this release really shines.

Negation - s/t

Negation - s/t

Death industrial from the latest Ascetic House batch of tapes. Pretty standard death industrial, maybe a little more mysterious guy techno and melodic than full on assault abrasiveness from modern names like Gnawed, STAB Electronics, FFH, etc. This is his first release so I'd say it's a very strong first effort under this name. I'm interested in hearing where this project goes.

Ilmestys - II

Ilmestys - II

I'm very happy to post the new demo from Ilmestys. You should have heard the first demo in 2012 or 2013 and this is a great follow up. I don't think this is as raging as that first demo. This also sounds quite a bit harsher, thus maybe a little less unwelcoming, or at least doesn't do the riffs enough justice. This brings up some variation though, I especially like outro. It reminds me a lot of Ancestors, which isn't a bad thing. Anyways, when Fallow Field puts out black metal you should listen.

Internazionale - Armour Of Stars

Internazionale - Armour Of Stars

I can't believe how much music Posh Isolation has been releasing lately - namely good music. Internazionale is no different too, this is the 4th release so far of 2015. This isn't much of a departure from those other releases though. If anything it is a little more electronics focused but that is buried behind tape hiss and walls of synth. There is a lot to this release and I haven't even fully digested it yet but I do enjoy it quite a bit. Definitely a must hear for fans of Posh Isolation.

Circle of Ouroborus - Alttarimyllyt

Circle of Ouroborus - Alttarimyllyt
Kuunpalvelus

Another monster release via Kuunpalvelus. You already know I'm going to give this high praise. The first half is the pretty standard CoO black metal they do so well. The B side is all acoustic though, neofolk-ish. That might be off putting to some but it still all sounds like CoO so if you're a fan then you will like this. Kuunpalvelus continues to put out some of the best forward thinking black metal. Between this and Kêres we've been blessed.

Kêres - Battle Secrets

Kêres - Battle Secrets

FINALLY got my hands on this. This and the new Circle Of Ouroborus were releases I was highly anticipating this year and both do not disappoint. This is definitely a must hear for black metal fans. Battle Secrets feels a little more riffy than their previous work but it might also be the production that makes it that way. I found myself headbanging along. The better production also allows for more depth, like keys, to really come through. As with all Kuunpalvelus releases the artwork is also amazing, pick this up if you have the chance.

Sadist - The Shadow Of The Swastika

Sadist - The Shadow Of The Swastika
self released

Definitely one of my favorite current Boston bands. Extremely noisy punk. This has some songs from their demo except with way more noise and production that suits them well. Great demo as well if you haven't heard it. There's a seamless transition and a locked groove on the last track that I let play for around 20 seconds.

Koufar - Lebanon For Lebanese

Koufar - Lebanon For Lebanese

The legendary return of Koufar on Fusty Cunt. 30 minutes of unrelenting power electronics. The label describes this as "putting an end to 'safe' power electronics" and I fully agree. Very political and personal, the vocals really bring that out. Vinyl was definitely the correct format for this release as it's so heavy hitting with so much stereo work. I strongly suggest picking up this monstrosity from Fusty Cunt as it is definitely some of the best power electronics released in quite some time.

Black Cilice - Mysteries

Black Cilice - Mysteries

The mysteries are not to be revealed.

The covers of Black Cilice's LPs should be enough for you to check them out but if you haven't now is the time. One man black metal from Portugal that boarders noise, extremely raw. This is not as abrasive as his albums, you can hear more melody in this one (though still not much). Very great record though, truly unmatched in this style.

Erotikens Historie - Homosexuality

Erotikens Historie - Homosexuality

"Heavy synth drones on forbidden sexualis" basically sums up this release. This one was limited to 30 copies in the most recent batch of releases that Posh Isolation put out. Discogs says it came with a Posh Isolation condom but mine didn't, which is too bad. Regardless, this is more of a drone release mixed with some noise and power electronics. 2 tracks at about 16 minutes.

Haraam - When The Sacred Months Have Passed

Haraam - When The Sacred Months Have Passed

Fallow Field continues to put out top notch music. This batch didn't even have any black metal! Another project I know nothing about but enjoy a lot. This one takes from the industrial techno scene and even has some jungle/hardcore influence, which is great. Not very far off from the Downwards stuff like Surgeon and Regis, except much more lo-fi and nosier. Very bass heavy. Definitely my favorite from the batch.

Internazionale - Elegy For The Victors

Internazionale - Elegy For The Victors

I'm very excited to be able to post this as I really like it. Posh Isolation brings us another amazing synth/ambient/drone/industrial/whatever you want to call it release from the mysterious Internazionale. I haven't been buying a lot of PI stuff lately but I'm really glad I got this one. Internazionale put out releases on both PI and Janushoved and I feel like this is another step in a great direction. This is very much like Croatian Amor's early material but a little more drone-y and ambient like, and less industrial. This is a must hear for fans of Croatian Amor and I can't wait to hear more!

Fields Of Mildew - s/t

Fields Of Mildew - s/t

By now we shouldn't expect anything from Jason Wood's label Fallow Field. This isn't raging black metal or electronics. I would describe this as folk or neofolk. Guitars and vocals only, with some faint drums on the last track. As with most things Fallow Field releases, I have never heard of this project and cannot find anything anywhere. I suggest checking it out if you're into folk/neofolk, if my recommendation means anything. The fact that FF released this should be enough to pick this up - JW is a true tastemaker.

RM - Dust Gates

RM - Dust Gates

Latest batch of Fallow Field tapes. This one is courtesy of the Summer Isle camp from Toronto. This is some great industrial/power electronics that is fairly harsh and has a lot of synths. Fans of this blog would definitely enjoy it. Total support for Fallow Field and Summer Isle, Death Kneel is great.

Kêres - The Eagle And The Scorpion

Kêres - The Eagle And The Scorpion
Keirosaisska

Rare and new offering from Finland and the Kuunpalvelus circle. It shouldn't be a surprise I like Kêres a lot as well. These 2 new songs are not far off from what Kêres has done in the past. The 2nd track is definitely more stand out for me. It's a little slower and more melodic than their previous material. As with everything Kuunpalvelus related, this is a must hear. Supposedly the band is releasing a new LP this year too!

Maléfices - Hurlemort

Maléfices - Hurlemort

I got this from Final Agony the other day with the new Slægt and it's now already sold out. Maléfices are from Quebec and play a cold black metal. As with all Final Agony releases this is something to be heard. This takes songs from their demos and some unreleased stuff. If you liked the Owl's Blood release I posted last year this is up your alley. Raw, straight forward, and cold is how I would describe this. Currently sold out, look out for distros carrying this.

Private Archive - Honey Aspic Enema

Private Archive - Honey Aspic Enema

I am very excited I finally convinced Chris of Private Archive to let me post this as it's definitely one of my favorite cassettes of 2014. Best enjoyed very loud. This release sounds exactly like The Haxan Cloak meets Alberich, and I don't use names lightly - especially The Haxan Cloak who is a master of his craft and is at the top of his game now. The description given is actually spot on, "Metaphysical mood music for your nasty treasures. Fuck or get fucked. Must be 18+ to purchase." The packaging is great from the double layered insert to the braille on the tape. I strongly urge you to pick up a copy of this because there is no way that this project is going to stay in the shadows much longer. Like I said before I had to convince Chris for me to post this so please check out his label's other releases and pick up a release or two.

Fetish Ritual - F&R

Fetish Ritual - F&R

This is a sickening power electronics release from Australia I know very little about. I got it from Overuse with a couple other things including that Carved Cross release I just posted. I believe this is dedicated to the English serial killers Fred West and Rose West. This reminds me a lot of Bird Seed by Whitehouse in how dark/over the top it is with the vocals. This is intended for a physical release with great artwork. Copies available or soon to be available from the band, the label via soundcloud, Overuse, Lust Vessel, Prime Ruin and Where Frost Reign.
